GENIND es un proyecto de investigación financiado por el Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Deporte. Su objetivo es estudiar la participación de los jóvenes en los movimientos y protestas que tuvieron lugar en 2011, desde una perspectiva transnacional, con particular énfasis en el area Mediterrénea. El proyecto esta coordinado por la UdL y en el mismo participan investigadores de Cataluña, España, Portugal, Italia, Grecia, Gran Bretaña, Estados Unidos, Chile y Brasil

Este eje
de trabajo pretende analizar las imágenes mediática de las protestas a partir
de su representación en los medios de comunicación de los respectivos países,
tanto escritos (prensa diaria) como digitales. Para ello se construirá una
hemeroteca virtual con un seguimiento del eco de las protestas en algunos
medios seleccionados durante 2011. A posteriori se llevará a cabo un análisis
de contenido de las retóricas del tratamiento mediático y sus efectos sociales. Además, pretende 0)Este apartado pretende analizar las representaciones
visuales generadas por los propios sujetos integrantes del movimiento en los
distintos países en los que este ha tenido lugar. Después de un análisis
detallado sobre las imágenes difundidas de forma externa por los principales
medios de comunicación, nuestra pretensión actual es desvelar la construcción
visual que los manifestantes hicieron sobre su propio mundo. Partiendo de la
idea de que es posible rendir cuentas y explicar la realidad a partir del
análisis de las representaciones visuales, entendemos que tanto la fotografía
como el video pueden constituir un interesante instrumento de producción de
información y descripción de las alteridades, al tiempo que nos permite
comprender los sentidos de los otros en las sociedades contemporáneas.
Utilizaremos, pues, la imagen (fotografía y video) como dato, entendiendo por
ello la recogida o el estudio de imágenes producidas o consumidas por los
integrantes del movimiento. Se trata de estudiar la imagen como producto
cultural creado por el ser humano; un producto que establece relaciones entre
las imágenes y el mundo que las rodea. Desde este punto de vista, no nos
interesa tanto trabajar la imagen de forma descontextualizada o formal, sino
desde su vertiente más relacional. Y es que la imagen no es solamente un puro
reflejo del mundo real, sino que en su composición se inscriben valores
socioculturales, a través de la mirada subjetiva del autor y del receptor.
As our group only consists of researchers from Spain and Greece we will focus first of all on these two countries within the European context. Others are very welcome to join us so that we can consider more countries or deepen the research in the given countries. Not having any case studies we can compare on, we decided to start a new recollection of material and analysis. First of all we want to identify important dates in the national/local movements in Greece and Spain and in some international movements from other countries (timeline, Yvonne). Then we want to collect newspaper front pages and magazine covers around these dates and on random other dates for our analysis. The newspapers and magazines will be chosen according to the criteria distribution and political orientation, whereat local, national and international press will be considered (languages: Greek, Spanish, Catalan, English, German, Portuguese…). The analysis will be both qualitative and quantitative: - The quantitative part will concentrate on the question if and how often the movements appear in the analyzed material. - The qualitative part will focus on how the moments are represented, the discourses and imaginaries that are constructed through these representations. The qualitative analysis depends on the theoretic foundation of the chosen methodology. Yvonne will provide us with some reading. It is not necessary that we follow exactly the same methodological approaches. In the case of the texts and captures we will be using the keywords, consider the contexts of their use etc. For the images we might find certain categories, related to the keywords, to describe the given representations, for example according to the presented elements (protesters? Police? Objects?) or the way they are presented (for example protesters having a party, destroying something, throwing stones, having an assembly etc.) We will compare changes over time, for example shifts in the representations, differences between local, national and international press, between newspapers with different political backgrounds and between the contemplated countries. We formulated a first list of keywords we want to analyze in the found material according to appearance, context, etc. Further keywords can be added inductively in the course of the analysis. It might be possible to amplify the research in the future and to include documentaries. Keywords: Crisis, unemployment, poverty, violence (state violence), UE/EU, youth, indignados, 15M, Occupation, democracy, political system, enemy, police, state, Greece, Spain, Catalunya, elections, austerity, left, right, demands/solutions, radicalism, fanaticism, Germany.
